Who is behind the Social Indicators Lab?

Silvia L. Vilches Ph.D.

Associate Professor and Extension Specialist

Dr. Vilches is the state specialist for early childhood, and supports and leads the development of parenting education programs for the state, particularly for early childhood. In her prior career she was a community advocate for families in need, particularly single parent families. Her education focused on policy and community analysis, and she holds a degree in urban planning (social planning).

The Social Indicators Lab is...

The Social Indicators Lab focuses on conditions of life and wellness for families with young children. Using a developmental model, Dr. Vilches leads research on supports for parents using a critical approach to contexts of life. As an Extension Specialist in Early Childhood, Dr. Vilches is involved in program development, delivery and evaluation, development of educational materials, and outreach.
